It is always a great pleasure just to watch Jessica
Lange move across a screen. Even when she plays characters weakened
by circumstance or destructive forces, there is something of the
lioness in her--a force of nature who also happens to be exceedingly
talented. Hollywood has never known quite what to do with Lange,
but she has been able to make an impact even in stock parts or
minor roles. Her best work has portrayed women with a sometimes-desperate
grasp of the unfairness of their lives and the near-impossibility
of escape. Her beauty in middle age remains both earthbound and
rarefied, a reflection of her Midwestern roots, her study of music,
dance, and modeling in Europe and New York, and her years working
while raising children. Jessica
Lange films include
The Postman Always Rings Twice
Sweet Dreams
Men Don't Leave
