Jane Fonda has spent much more time as a cultural
figurehead than as an actress, and that's cinema's loss. But we
can savor the best of her work, especially from the '70s, which
showcases her fearless persona as well as the acting chops she
inherited from her incredible Hollywood lineage. She overcame
her early starlet-of-the-month typecasting to become one of our
strongest, fiercest actresses. Her earnest severity has rightly
earned her honors, but take the time to appreciate the small,
almost throwaway moments of humanity in each of her films (our
favorite: her tucking her pet tortoise absentmindedly under her
arm in The China Syndrome). Jane
Fonda films include
Julia

Coming Home
Barefoot in the Park
