Leslie Caron took up ballet at the age of 10 and by
16 she was a professional. Gene Kelly chose her as his costar
for An American in Paris, and Leslie
Caron's early film career consisted of sprightly, gamine parts
in a number of MGM musicals (Gigi). The camera loved her, compensating
for some of her other deficiencies, and in time she grew into
a striking dramatic performer; she received two British Film Academy
Awards and Oscar nominations for her roles in Lili and The L-Shaped
Room. In 1964, she costarred with Cary Grant in Father Goose,
but spent most of that decade and every one since largely shooting
in Europe. Caron has worked with some of the finest directors
from that continent: Truffaut, Malle, Zanussi, Clement, and Ken
Russell. Leslie
Caron films include
Lili
Gigi
An American in Paris
The Glass Slipper
The Man Who Loved Women
